Round Robin 1998

Greetings fellow quilters. There are lots of round robin quilt exchanges going on, and I lucked into a great one! From all over the U.S. and Canada, 12 of us worked on each others centers. Some of our quilt tops reached sizes of six feet or more! As of January 1999, they started to "come home".

  • The 1998 year started out quite different for me - for the first time I became involved in a Round Robin of quilting. 12 of us started a center square and then sent our square on to the next person, who worked one round on it, and then they sent it on. They all were to come back to their owners in December, although we found it took a little longer (but not by much!). We've gotten to know each other fairly well - as we had corresponded almost everyday that year and many of us continue to keep in touch. The following quilts passed thru my sewing machine.
  • Janie/Alaska was the hostess of 3 rounds.  Each round had a "rule" - and I kept a diary of the people and rules and photos of the squares as they passed thru Edmonton.  One of them I even too to West Edmonton Mall for the photo shoot!  I enjoyed working on all the quilts.  And to receive mine back at the end!!!  It remains a UFO - but I really will try to quilt it in 2006.
  • Clicking on the photos will get a larger view.

To start the round - I made a square and sent it and a box of fabric out the door.  Not knowing a single person in the round, not knowing what kind of a chance I was taking on this "world wide web"..... scary.....

THEN - a package arrives in the mail from.....

Lucy's centreLucy in Minnesota - more chicken fabric than I had ever imagined!!     I am so curious to know what the finished top looks like ... Lucy?? Can you send me a picture??

Cookie's centerCookie in Georgia - her center needed to be put on point - a sunrise seemed just right.

In the fall of 2005 I received a photo of Cookie's quilt finished - isn't it wonderful?!

  • Michelle in Spokane - A most beautiful set of colors! I couldn't resist adding crazy stars and flying geese (snow geese!) for the paper piecing.
  • Michelle's quilt           Michelle's center at my place

  •   Kimberly in Texas - Her quilt was possibly one of the first ones quilted!

  • Dachsie's quilt

  • Diane in Virginia - the sixth round - we had each other's for applique!

  • After applique-ing the stars on, I blanket stitched them - they needed the high-light!!

  • Diane's Quilt

  • Pansy's quilt

      Pansy's pansies in the border

A top and bottom border with the color wash.

Deb in Chattanooga (at the time) - in August I worked on a quilt named OSCAR! Well, we don't always name our quilts, but Deb did! Oscar is a turtle and he is the center of her quilt. Here's the quilt up to the point I worked on it. OSCAR is a great shopper as I took him to the mall for his photo shoot!! Oh and and at the skating rink - turtle shells really glide - the zamboni is cleaning up our streaks, and of course, being a turtle, he was quite at home on the Santa Maria at the mall.

  • Deb's Oscar

  • Sharon in Kansas - I designed a rose for her and appliqued it onto one of the borders. This round was to be curves, and after discussing the idea with her, Sharon was OK with the applique.....

    Colleen's Quilt

<<< Colleen in Montana's quilt is a beauty - soft colors and all co-ordinate so well - just like all the others!!

It's on to Cathy in California for the last round I worked on. Cathy's quilt came to me for it's last round, and I found a fabric that would add a solid border to finish it. It picked out all the colors that were in her stunning quilt top. It is a beauty don't you agree?

NOW.... to the end the round.....

And at long last, my center came home. Lucy (remember the chicken fabric up top??)  was the last to work on it and she added hearts of chickens all around. The grin on my face just won't go away - can you believe the color match to our room?? This is truly one beauty of a quilt top - and I must get it quilted quickly, as dear hubby insists on keeping it on the bed as of now!! Thank you isn't enough ladies, but Thank You Lucy, Cookie, Michelle, Andrea, Kimberly, Diane, Pansy, Deb and Sharon, and Colleen and Cathy. May all your quilts be treasures to you as this one is to me!

    Lez.
